My Review – 5 Stars
Continuing with this fabulous series, Kate Meader gave us another heartfelt and passionate story. We finally got to read about Violet, the third and illegitimate child of Clifford Chase, who was thrown into the world of hockey as her and her sisters took over ownership of his team. While navigating this new world and relationships, this feisty Puerto Rican outwardly showed the world her strong, fun, and sassy side. But deep down, Violet struggled with the pain of being unwanted by her father, insecurities related to her body after her battle with breast cancer, and feeling like she wasn’t enough for not only Bren but the new family she’d come to love so dearly. Likewise, Bren, the broody Scot, spent his life off the ice trying to battle his demons and fight for the life that he’d always wanted with his girls. I loved witnessing their journey of finding love and acceptance.
I absolutely adored Violet and Bren’s story. We had the joy of seeing them battle their attraction for months in the previous books, so I was ecstatic to finally get my hands on this one. These two characters had so much pain to work through. It was nice to see them finally find their way to each other. The way they connected, fought through their uncertainty and chemistry to be friends and colleagues, and later found their footing as a couple was expertly written. I loved the vulnerability both Violet and Bren showed one another. I could understand and appreciate how difficult it must have been for them to reveal their insecurities, mistakes, and feelings. I think seeing each other struggle allowed them to find comfort and acceptance. In addition to their relationship, the one they had with Cat and Franky was well developed and perfect. I was happy that the author’s focus was centered around these girls well being and not have them brushed aside or overlooked in favor of the love story. It was lovely to see Violet helping the girls find their footing in their new situation and open the door for Bren to be the kind of dad he was meant to be.
This book was low on angst, big on sexual tension, and full of heart. It’s definitely a must read for me. My only wish was that the author had given us a little more drama in regard to Kendra. I wanted to witness Bren fighting her for his girls and her reaction, not just hear about how everything was resolved later.
The steamy Chicago Rebels series returns with this racy and sassy tale of embittered hearts, second chances, and going for the goal—on and off the ice.
Violet Vasquez never met her biological father, so learning he left his beloved hockey franchise—the Chicago Rebels—to her is, well, unexpected. Flat broke and close to homeless, Violet is determined to make the most of this sudden opportunity. Except dear old dad set conditions that require she takes part in actually running the team with the half-sisters she barely knows. Working with these two strangers and overseeing a band of hockey-playing lugs is not on her agenda…until she lays eyes on the Rebels captain and knows she has to have him.
Bren St. James has been labeled a lot of things: the Puck Prince, Lord of the Ice, Hell’s Highlander…but it’s the latest tag that’s making headlines: washed-up alcoholic has-been. This season, getting his life back on track and winning the Cup are his only goals. With no time for relationships—except the fractured ones he needs to rebuild with his beautiful daughters—he’s finding it increasingly hard to ignore sexy, all-up-in-his-beard Violet Vasquez. And when he finds himself in need of a nanny just as the playoffs are starting, he’s faced with a temptation he could so easily get hooked on.
For two lost souls, there’s more on the line than just making the best of a bad situation… there might also be a shot at the biggest prize of all: love.
