My Review – 5 Stars

I’m always so excited when Callie Harper has a new book out, and I have been dying for Ian’s story. Through all of the other All In books, we heard about the tragedy that put Ian in the wheelchair and burned his beautiful body. The other characters also talked about the reclusive and resentful man that he became. He’s dearly loved but won’t allow anyone to get close to him again. So you can imagine my anticipation of his finally being forced into a relationship with another human being. It was icing on the cake that it happened to be Annie. Man, I loved her. She was strong and sweet as well as understanding. And the fact that Ian couldn’t break her only added to her appeal. They reminded me a bit of Beauty and the Beast, which happens to be my all time favorite Disney movie.

It was only natural for this dark and controlling man to have similar desires. He was so frightened of what those would do to the innocent and angelic Annie, which is why he denied any form of interaction with her at the start. But when the time finally came, he was gentle and caring with her, helping her learn and discover her sensuality. It was marvelous witnessing all those massive walls come crumbling down around his stone cold heart. He had mentally locked his heart in a castle as he had physically done with himself. Each day, as Annie had brought life back to his family’s ancestral home, she had awakened his heart and helped him move beyond the pain of his injuries and the anguish that was brought on by others reactions to his misfortune.

Something that Callie does well is force her characters to create their own future and heal themselves. She puts people in their paths that will help them see the changes that they need to make in their lives, but at some point, they have to do it on their own. Halfway through this book, we jumped ahead a year. It’s at that point where we found out what Ian and Annie had made of their lives apart from each other. I was anxious to see where they were in their lives, and how their worlds would intersect once again. And I can honestly say that I was not disappointed. Their reunion was perfectly heartbreaking and healing.

“It’s just a job, how hard can it be?”

I was hired by his father to become his live-in caregiver.

It sounded like an easy job. But the day I arrived at his broken-down Scottish castle I started to realize it might not be as easy as I thought.

I was not told that I’d be looking after a dark, brooding, rich man mired in a world of pain.

I was not told that this man would push all my buttons and test even my strongest limits.

I was not told that he was devastatingly gorgeous with a wickedly, sinful mouth.

I was definitely not told that what I’d end up feeling and what he would propose would drive me wild. But I’m Annie and this is my new job. And damn it, I’m not going to let anything, even him, that gorgeous, sinful, delicious man, stand in my way.

You believe me? Don’t you?
