My Review – 4.5 Stars

I can’t believe it took me so long to find Jami Davenport! After reading her last release, Game Changer, I knew I needed to jump on this author’s bandwagon. I’m a huge sports fanatic and especially love books that incorporate the love of any game with a happily ever after. Jami does that perfectly. Her players are like a family who support and care for each other as brothers and sisters would. The characters in this story were no different. Brick had the full support of his teammates, even if there was some lighthearted ribbing in regard to his circumstances. If not for them, I think he would have struggled so much more with his decisions and ability to care for his daughter, Macy.

It took me a minute to warm up to Brick. I was nervous about how I might rate his story, but I pushed on knowing that the author would find a way to make him lovable. I then realized his cocky bravado was a defense mechanism, and he was always trying to be the life of the party to avoid any real relationships or self inflection. But it was frustrating at times, especially when it came to his interactions with Amelia. Here’s this sweet, beautiful, intelligent woman who came to his rescue, and Brick was doing everything in his power to try to seduce her. I was concerned for her sanity and ability to resist him. Fortunately, these two had much more strength than I gave them credit for. I loved watching them create a family together and shed the pain and loss of their pasts.
