“Swoon. Sigh. Beautiful, gorgeous love story. You renew my faith in true love, Katy Regnery. And a brilliant take off on the little mermaid. People are going to love this one.” –Mia Sheridan, New York Times bestselling author of Archer’s Voice
From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale.
In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman’s daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of the North Carolina governor at a fancy party where she is working.
Laire, who wants more from life than her little island can offer, is swept away by wealthy, sophisticated Erik, who is, in turn, entranced by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.
Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.

My Review – 4 Stars
What a great story! I loved Laire and Erik and their journey. And that’s exactly what this is, a journey. Don’t Speak is so much more than just a love story. It’s a first love and a second chance romance all wrapped up in one. I loved the beginning of Laire and Erik’s relationship, watching them discover each other and experiencing the wonder and heartbreak that only a first love can bring. I enjoyed watching Laire grow into the beautiful, independent, and confidant woman she became after her world fell apart. And more than anything, I reveled in Laire and Erik finding their way back to each other. In regard to the characters, the author did a fabulous job of developing their personalities, histories, and relationships with friends and family. I loved how passionate, loyal, and caring they were.
The spin on The Little Mermaid was clever. I liked how the author incorporated the names from the movie throughout the book. The only negative was the length and the over abundance of detail. I got lost in the descriptions of the islands and geography and felt like there was too much repetitive recollections of the past and emotions.
