The thrilling conclusion of Katy Regnery’s first paranormal romance series!
HAPPILY EVER AFTER…
To some, they’re just words signifying a fairytale ending.
For me, Jack Beauloup, they represent an unyielding desire:
Forever with Darcy Turner, the unexpected love of my life.
A love that has placed her human life in danger.
According to Pack Law, my binding is an abomination that must be severed.
It’s ignited a fiery hatred that I must confront and control.
But what is bound cannot be broken.
I will keep Darcy safe.
Even if it means giving up on my dreams.
Even if it means giving up my life.
What a great conclusion to this duet! This was a unique and creative spin on a shifter romance. It was like delving into the monster side of Supernatural. Sam and Dean would have a field day trying to work this one out. I loved how the author didn’t romanticize the monsters but created an alternative lifestyle that would allow Jack and Darcy to be together. She did a fabulous job describing every aspect of this world from their emotions to the details about the history and lives of the skinwalkers. It’s hard to believe this is Katy Regnery’s debut in paranormal romance.
I loved the way that Jack and Darcy returned to each other. I understood the need to be apart and the thoughts and actions of both characters, but the pain they inflicted and endured was agonizing. Their distance, all the hurtful words, and the way they pushed at each other broke my heart. Their journey to HEA was far from an easy one. They had to face their fears and the depth of their feelings for each other to move past their initial break. Darcy especially had some soul searching to do. Her initial reaction to learning about who Jack really was and their bond was warranted. Like I said in my book 1 review, you can’t expect her to be okay with the monster right away. I enjoyed watching her walls crumble and her love evolve once she was able to see Jack for the man he always wanted to be for her. From that point on, their love was passionate, tender, fierce, and unwavering. And the sex was hot and sweet. I love that she was willing to do whatever it took to be with him and protect him from what was to come. It takes a strong and willful woman to do what she did.
Jack loved Darcy so much that he literally changed his nature to be with her. He spent years fighting to be a man she could love. It devastated me when Darcy rejected him not once but twice. His pain radiated throughout the story. He spent so much time worrying about Darcy’s feelings, suppressing his wants and needs, and protecting her from his world that I never felt like he was truly happy until the very end.
And how about Willow?! She’s been an amazing friend to Darcy and an asset to them both. I hope we get to know her and watch her unique journey in a future book.
